Yoonu Jamm privacy policy

This text applies to the Yoonu Jamm app, for worshippers' daily practice, and to the yoonujamm.app website.

In short

1. Who is responsible for your data

Yoonu Jamm is published by Ataya Labs, a company under Senegalese law being incorporated, represented by its founder, Nicolas Geslain. The app is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases. Ataya Labs is the controller of the processing described here. For any question about your data: [email protected].

2. What stays on your phone

Your answer to the age question. The choice to unlock parental control with Face ID or fingerprint (recognition is done by the phone, the app only receives yes or no). The language, the theme, the text size and the reminder settings. The favourite verses, hadiths and mosques, the personal places, the calendar, the tasbih counter and the last surah read. The version and time of your acceptance of the licence agreement and the terms of use. The parental code, if set, is kept there only as a salted hash, in the phone's encrypted storage, with its attempts and any forgotten code request. The code itself is never written or sent.

This data does not leave the phone, except the chosen language, which is part of the anonymous statistics if you leave them on (section 3, "Anonymous statistics"). It is erased when you uninstall the app or clear its data, with one exception. On iPhone, the parental code hash is kept in the phone's keychain, which uninstalling does not empty. It is used again if the app is reinstalled, until the code is removed (Settings, Parental control) or the phone is reset.

3. What leaves the phone, and to whom

Your location

Nearby mosques

Only when you open "Find a mosque" (the map) or the "Mosques" screen:

Your favourite mosques and personal prayer places stay on the phone.

The mosque map

The map background is made of images (tiles) loaded directly by your phone from the tile provider, currently the OpenStreetMap Foundation (tile.openstreetmap.org). Like any web server, it sees your IP address and the tiles requested, and therefore the area you are looking at.

Place of a calendar event

Only when you type at least three letters in the Place field of the calendar:

Listening to the Qur'an and adhan voices

Hadiths

Prayer reminders

Reminders are scheduled on the phone itself. No remote notification service is used, and no notification identifier is created.

Technical requests to our server

Anonymous statistics

The app counts, on the phone, how many times each of its tools is opened. These counts tell us how many phones use it each day, in which areas, and which tools are used or not.

At most once a day, at a randomly chosen time, it sends our server the previous day's report. This report only contains:

The report contains no identifier: no phone identifier, no account, nothing that would let anyone recognise your phone from one day to the next. It contains neither what you type, nor what you search for, nor the time at which you open a tool, nor your coordinates. The area is worked out on the phone, and no coordinates leave it for this measurement.

Our server does not keep the reports. It adds them at once to totals per day: per area and per tool, and, separately, per app, version, phone system and language. It keeps only these totals, without crossing them with one another. An area with fewer than 5 reports on a given day is counted under "other".

Like any request, the report arrives with your IP address. Our server sees it in passing but does not record it for this request, either in a database or in its logs. Like the other requests to our server, the report also goes through Cloudflare (section 7), which also sees your IP address.

These totals are used only to know how many phones use the app, where, and which tools. They are not used for advertising, for building a profile or for marketing analysis. We do not sell them and do not share them with anyone. They do not make it possible to follow a phone from one day to the next: so we do not know how many different people use the app over a month, and this is intended.

The totals are kept for 25 months, then erased. On the phone, the counters stay until the report is sent; without a connection, the report waits 7 days at most.

You can turn these statistics off at any time in the app's Settings. The switch is on by default; when it is off, the app counts nothing more, sends no more statistics and erases the counters already kept on the phone. When it is turned back on, counting starts again from zero. These statistics and this switch are the same in all versions of Yoonu Jamm, including those from Google Play and the App Store.

Android test version

Only the test version, distributed outside the stores, asks beta.yoonujamm.app at start-up for the number of the latest available version. For the test only, it also includes the search for Oustaz and Imams:

Versions installed from Google Play or the App Store make none of this request, this search or these messages.

Sharing and writing to us

"Share" opens the phone's share sheet: you choose who to share with and through which app. "Your feedback" opens your email app with our address: we only receive what you send.

5. Accounts from earlier test versions

Until 16 October 2026, the test versions of Yoonu Jamm included a directory of Oustaz and Imams, which created an anonymous account on our server. Yoonu Jamm no longer has accounts and no longer reaches those accounts. If you created one:

7. Who else receives data

We do not sell, rent or share any data. The only third parties are the following technical services:

9. Your rights

You may ask for access to your data, its correction, its erasure or the restriction of its processing, object to it, withdraw your consent, and receive your data in a reusable format. As the app keeps only anonymous totals on our servers, most of it is in your hands. Your data is on your phone, and uninstalling the app erases it (on iPhone, first remove the parental code, in Settings, Parental control). For your location, withdraw the permission in the phone's settings. For the anonymous statistics, turn them off in the app's Settings.

For anything else, write to [email protected]: reply within one month. If you consider that your rights are not respected, you may complain to the CNIL (cnil.fr) or, in Senegal, to the Commission for the Protection of Personal Data (cdp.sn).

10. Children

The app asks for no name or account, and collects no data to target children. When first opened, it asks whether you are 16 or older; the answer stays on the phone. Under 16, the mosque search is done with a parent. A parent or guardian can set a parental code, which locks everything on the phone except the practice tools, the sources and the help, in particular the settings, the calendar and the mosque screen.

12. Changes

Any change will be dated on this page. In the event of a significant change, the app will let you know.

Version of 23 October 2026. Until 16 October 2026, this page also described the directory of Oustaz and Imams, which is no longer part of Yoonu Jamm.
